New in the store postcards from The Postcard Asylum!
The Postcards Asylum was founded to give shelter those postcards that were left behind, the odd one out, left in the cold. Those cards that you can charge with extra meaning or a personal message. Perhaps not most suited for your gradmother Mabel or uncle  George. But then again... We know Mabel. And these cards might be just something for her. It's wise though to skip uncle George.

The Library in conjunction with the Patronaat is proud to have a legend in the music world grace the shop next week on Wednesday afternoon.  So check out his work and clock out early from work for this unique experience to see Simon Joyner in the shop.  Showtime 17.30.  Free entrance. Passing the hat after the show to help Simon with ravel costs, alright.

HAARLEM - Met onder meer een fraai en humorvol optreden van de Canadese singer-songwriter-accordeonist Geoff Berner werd vrijdagmiddag het eenjarig bestaan van een bijzonder Haarlems winkeltje gevierd. Joshua – ‘some people know me as Mr Weird Beard’ - Baumgarten en zijn vrouw Mara van Limbeek (beiden links op de foto) runnen in de Doelstraat in de Vijfhoek The Irrational Library Shop.

De winkel biedt kunst, kitch, vintage-kleding, platen, boeken en dvd's in het alternatieve genre. En ziet er vanwege zijn prachtige aankleding tegelijkertijd uit als museum maar ook huiskamer. Gaat het goed met de winkel, in deze barre tijden? Baumgarten: ,,Ja! We kunnen de huur betalen. Dat is al heel wat.’’ Geoff Berner, ook bekend als ‘The Wiskey Rabbi’ maakte voor de gelegenheid graag een tussenstop tijdens zijn huidige Europese toernee, die hem later op avond ook voor een optreden in het Patronaat-café bracht. Hij was toch in de buurt. Het toeval hielp een handje: Berner was er precies een jaar geleden ook om de opening van The Irrational Library Shop op te luisteren. ,,Het is leuk op terug te zijn. Dit is een bijzondere plek. Dit soort shops kom je heel af en toe tegen – in Berlijn bijvoorbeeld. En ik ken ook zoiets in Toronto. Laat ze dit alsjeblieft volhouden.’’
